About

Helen Davidson is the Founder of Kidzmix – a social and emotional skills development program - from which thousands of children – and their parents – have graduated since 1995.

Helen is an Occupational Therapist and a Family Therapist with a Masters Degree in Counselling, and postgraduate training in all the major current psychological therapies.  In a career that spans 30 years in child and adolescent health, in 1990 Helen began to specialize in child and adolescent mental health, working in public and private hospitals, clinics and community agencies.  In 1995 Helen commenced her private practice and developed the Kidzmix Program.

In 2007 Helen took sabbatical leave to gain international experience, and also to focus on developing a range of parent and professional resources for children’s mental health.  The 4th ‘R’- Relationships’As Important as Reading, Writing and Arithmetic – a practical, skill building manual for both parents and child, is the first of these and will be available in June 2011.  Further details about Helen’s clinical experience.

Helen’s current employment in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Western Australia and recent CAMHS experience in the United Kingdom as the Principal Family Therapist, ensures that she keeps abreast of the latest clinical knowledge and practices in developing children’s mental health.

Helen is passionate about helping parents develop their child’s social and emotional competence and believes that most parenting courses have missed this important piece of the puzzle called ‘being a parent’.  Whilst there are numerous training courses for professionals on developing children’s mental health, there is a dearth of practical information for parents about how to build these skills into their everyday parenting.

2011 will see Helen offering a number of parent seminars and workshops throughout Western Australia based around her book, The 4th ‘R’- Relationships -  As Important as Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. Parents will learn the 13 keys skills for social and emotional competence with practical, fun and effective ways to teach them.  For  details of parent seminars.
